Way to Work Initiative

Hopefully you are aware that the government has just announced the ‘Way to Work’ initiative to help 500,000 people into work by the end of June.

New jobs mission to get 500,000 into work – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

I wanted to write and let you know how we will be delivering this within Surrey and Sussex and ask for your support in promoting the service we can offer our local employers.

With vacancies currently at a record high, our Employer Advisers are embarking on a campaign to make more employers aware of the free support that the jobcentre can offer.

Building on the success of the Kickstart scheme, we are particularly keen to encourage employers to recruit directly through our jobcentres. This has often proved the quickest and most effective method for employers seeking to recruit. We can set up recruitment days to support individual employers, or organise large scale events, such as our forthcoming ‘Grow with Gatwick’ events in Crawley which has over 2000 jobs available for jobseekers to apply for.

Within our jobcentres we are ensuring that our work coaches have the knowledge of the emerging sectors and areas of growth.  This will help ensure we can fully support jobseekers, offering them access to a wide range of free training to help them bridge any skills gaps.

We can also support our customers with the use of our Flexible Support Fund. This financial support can be used for things like fares or even tools or equipment needed to help them start work.

We are also organising a series of campaigns to promote recruitment into those areas that are facing particular challenges such as care, hospitality and land based sectors, so are keen to work alongside partners and employers as part of these campaigns.

I’m really keen that we work as collaboratively as possible across Surrey and Sussex, helping jobseekers into work and supporting employers with their recruitment needs for the benefit of our local economy.

I am really keen to have your support in terms of promoting what the local jobcentre can offer when you are speaking to employers and other relevant partners, encouraging them to make use of our services, particularly to promote and fill local jobs.

I have provided details below of our local partnership manager who can be contacted for further details and support.

Kind Regards,
