Kangaroos Mid Sussex is a registered Charity that provides social opportunities for people with Learning Disabilities.  We have around 250 members from 0 – 38 years old and run clubs by age group on evenings, weekends and in school holidays.

Our sessions are run by experienced and qualified staff with the support of volunteers.  We have a permanent office team who is  supported by a voluntary Board of Trustees.  The current Board is primarily made up of parents of our members and we would ideally like to recruit professionals with wider business experience to join us.

As a member of the Board of Trustees you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to young people’s  lives by helping to develop the charity’s strategic goals, monitor its performance and support the staff team.

Trustees need to be informed and interested in Learning Disability and SEND issues,  be able to provide effective strategic oversight of the charity’s activities, be able to oversee budgets and financial decisions and have a strong desire to improve the lives of disabled young people and their families. Ideally,  you will have some experience in leadership and senior management.  If you have particular expertise in SEND, HR, Law, run your own business  or enjoy working with charities elsewhere then we would particularly love to hear from you.

This is an exciting time for Kangaroos and we wish to build on our existing wide range of activities and to raise our profile to ensure our future sustainability so that we can continue to meet the needs of disabled young people in Mid Sussex.

We are based in Haywards Heath and would expect Trustees to attend at least 6 Full Board meetings per year plus be actively involved in a committee.  Trustees are appointed for an initial term of 3 years.

Legally,  the duties and responsibilities  of all Charity Trustees are determined by the Charity Commission and laid out in their guidance notes The Essential Trustee available on, which you should read if you are interested.   Trustees must also work within the terms of the governing documents of Kangaroos Mid Sussex.

Please email to further discuss this exciting opportunity and to find out how you can  make a difference.
