20th February 2019

HANDELSBANKEN BOLSTERS LOCAL TEAM TO MEET GROWING DEMAND

Handelsbanken Haywards Heath has appointed a new Corporate Banking Manager in response to increasing demand for its local relationship banking services.

Dayan Maharajh joins the local relationship bank with over 35 years of banking experience. She will be involved in developing existing customer relationships as well as welcoming new customers to Handelsbanken’s bespoke approach to local banking.

A strong focus on long-term relationships and high levels of personal service has seen the bank rated top for customer satisfaction 10 years running in an independent survey of British banks’ personal and business customers*. Branches are responsible for making all day-to-day banking decisions based solely on their customers’ requirements, free from product and lending targets or bonus incentives.

Dayan commented: “What attracted me to Handelsbanken was its pure focus on serving the customer. As experienced local bankers we have the power to make all the decisions that matter to our customers, swiftly and sensibly here in the branch. The bank provides customers with an extremely high level of service, and products structured to meet their individual needs.”

The branch, established in 2016 and located in Perrymount Road, has developed a reputation for traditional banking, financial strength and high standards within the local business and professional services community.

Dave Barden, Branch Manager, added: “I am very pleased to welcome Dayan and her substantial experience to our team. Her appointment means that we can continue to meet the growing needs of both existing and new customers in Haywards Heath whilst maintaining the high levels of service for which we are renowned.”

Originally from Sweden, Handelsbanken now has almost 800 branches in more than 20 countries and has been named the joint top-scoring commercial bank in Global Finance’s ranking of the World’s Safest Banks 2018**. In the UK, where it has established its wholly-owned UK subsidiary, the Bank supports customers in over 200 communities across the country.

At a time when strength and stability is of particular importance to customers, the Bank enjoys amongst the highest credit ratings of any international bank***. This reflects Handelsbanken’s strong financial position, long-term focus and prudent, consistent approach to banking through all economic conditions.

In August 2018, Handelsbanken was named the most recommended provider for SME banking by the Competition and Markets Authority’s Independent Service Quality Survey for business banking. The Bank was ranked top in four of the five categories identified by the survey – with 84% of SME banking customers saying they would be extremely or very likely to recommend Handelsbanken to other SMEs for its overall service quality****.

Handelsbanken was also named Best Private Bank 2018 at the FT and Investors Chronicle Investment & Wealth Management Awards. This is the sixth time it has received the accolade for its customer-led approach to banking and wealth management*****.

Notes to editors

Handelsbanken plc is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Svenska Handelsbanken AB (publ), authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. Now effective, it has replaced the UK branch of Svenska Handelsbanken AB (publ). Both entities trade under ‘Handelsbanken’.

Handelsbanken is one of Sweden’s leading banks with almost 800 branches in more than 20 countries, and approximately 12,000 employees.

Handelsbanken was established in Stockholm in 1871 and has operated in the UK since 1982. The local relationship bank manages a decentralised network of over 200 branches across Britain, with further expansion ongoing. The UK is one of Handelsbanken’s six “home market” countries, where the bank offers full service banking to domestic market customers, the other countries being Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands.

Handelsbanken specialises in providing personalised and competitive banking services to both businesses and individuals, as well as wealth management services provided by specialists, Handelsbanken Wealth Management. Its investment management services are provided through its UK subsidiary Heartwood Investment Management. Each Handelsbanken branch operates as a small business enabling it to make decisions at a local level and provide a service that is bespoke. The focus is always on the need of the individual customer and not on the sale of specific products, hence the bank does not offer its branch staff bonuses.
