Gatwick Business Update

I thought you might be interested in follow up on Gatwick Airport’s current operations & plans for 2022. Once again, I recently attended the quarterly meeting of GATCOM, the Gatwick Consultative Committee, as an observer and am happy to attach a Gatwick Business Update.  Highlights include:

1: Numerous new & returning routes are building passenger numbers (additional information on increased connections to Canada with 50 flights a week this summer can be found in this recent press release)

2: Re-introduction of slot use regulations for Summer 2022 is driving uplifts in flying programmes

3: South Terminal successfully re-opened on 27th March – you can watch a video of the work involved here

4: The main runway is currently being resurfaced & this requires use of the Northern Runway when the works are being carried out at night.

5: There’s a new electric vehicle charging station being built, and the railway station is still on track (forgive me) for the grand opening in March 2023.

The outlook continues to look positive with strong demand for travel from both leisure & business passengers.  Plans are still underway to bring the Northern Runway into scheduled operations adding capacity that will be needed.  VINCI Airports (Gatwick’s main shareholder) are promoting the use of hydrogen in aviation (VINCI Airports News Update).
