Community Engagement Group: Clair Hall site

On behalf of Mid Sussex District Council I invite you to participate, as a representative of Haywards Heath Business Association, in a Community Engagement Group (CEG) that is being established to help shape the future of the Clair Hall site.

As you will be aware, Clair Hall was closed to the public on 19th March 2020 in line with COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, opening again at the end of 2020 as a Vaccination Centre. In January 2021, it was agreed that a public engagement and consultation on the future of the Clair Hall site would be undertaken. Given your links to the site and/or the wider town community I hope you will agree to work with us as part of the engagement and consultation.

Mid Sussex District Council is embarking on an open and holistic engagement and consultation process. At this stage, there has not been any decision made on the future and the ambition of the engagement process is to offer the local community the opportunity to inform and shape recommendations on the future of the Clair Hall site. Over the course of the Summer we will be seeking feedback from stakeholders, community groups and the wider local community.

It is vitally important that the widest cross section of local community has the opportunity to share their views. The engagement programme will include drop-in sessions, one-to-one meetings, webinars, and a whole host of measures to give everyone in the local community the opportunity to participate. As part of this engagement program, we are establishing a formal Community Engagement Group with representatives drawn from different parts of the community and I’m pleased to be inviting you to be involved in that group.

The first meeting of the CEG will take place in July, and then two further sessions will be scheduled for September. The sessions will be facilitated by our independent Community Engagement Consultants, ECF, and led by the Project Lead Consultant Oliver Deed. Each CEG meeting will last for around an hour and a half. Given COVID-19 restrictions, we envisage the sessions taking place on Zoom, although this will be kept under review. The feedback received at these sessions will be included as part of the Consultation Report that will ultimately inform any decisions on the future of the site.

If you would like to participate, or you would like further information, please respond directly to the consultants and they will contact you to arrange a call and discuss dates for the first meeting. Alternatively, if you do not wish to be part of the group, we hope to see you at one of our events over the summer and please do engage via the online hub. Robert Foster, Consultant at ECF will handle the logistics so please feel free to contact him and the rest of the project team on

Yours sincerely

Norman Webster
