According to the Office of National Statistics in 2019* less than half of all new businesses make it to their fourth year and I am overwhelming happy (and quite frankly relieved) to announce that as of 17th November 2020, 52eight3 will be one of the successful businesses.
The last year is certainly not what we had planned and those carefully crafted financial forecasts for 2020 have been about as useful as a chocolate teapot in terms of navigating these unprecedented times (urgh – THAT phrase!). I’m so glad a five-year forecast is a to-do list item that I never actually got around to completing – time saved, phew!
Like many business owners, I continue to ride the Corona-coaster and as our business financial year comes to a close, I am reflecting on the past year and also on the potentially uncertain future.
The fantastic thing about entering a period of uncertainty is that everything remains possible. There is no ‘right’ way or template for how things ‘should be done’. Like walking in freshly driven snow, the road ahead may be traitorous and unnerving but there is a sense of excitement and potential in the air.
There are many small wins for 2020 which should be celebrated but a few standout moments for this year including the recruitment of Faye and Becca to the 52eight3 team, and bringing our own Exhibition Marketer’s Masterclass event to life (digitally of course).
It is my belief that a positive attitude can only get you so far and can often falter after a number of weeks (needing to be replenished by a stiff gin and tonic and lying down in a dark room). So instead, I’ve tackled Lockdown 2.0 with a renewed focus and alternative approach to concentrate on what we can do rather than what we can’t.
We can support businesses, we have a fantastic team, we have energy. We are determined in our approach and have brilliant support networks in our personal and professional lives.
It is those support networks that have accelerated our business growth, providing advice and opening many doors for which we are eternally grateful.
It seems only right that we celebrate entering our fourth year by launching something new and for 52eight3 this means opening our services beyond the events industry and into providing marketing and PR to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
In part, the diversification is due to the uncertainty of the events industry but also, small businesses have been at the very core of our client base since our inception and the idea that we can support more businesses adds another string to our bow.
As many businesses are evolving to meet new demands, now is the time for us to do the same. The events industry has been the bones of our business and we’re excited to be able to officially open our skillset and expertise to a wider network.
